Roland Bergs, 93, rural Arlington


Roland Bergs, age 93, of New Auburn Township, rural Arlington, passed away at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia on Saturday, Jan. 2.
Funeral service was held at Zion Lutheran Church in Arlington at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9. Pastor James Carlson officiated.
The organist was Brenda Danielson.
Congregational hymns were “Abide With Me,” “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” “Amazing Grace” and “Borning Cry.”
Casket bearers were Larry Lindeman, Mark Grams, Jim Flemming, Rodney Tuttle, Mike Lindeman and Mike Bergs.
Honorary casket bearers were grandchildren and great- grandchild, Bradley Pomplun, Kerry Pomplun, Carrie Eidem, Kyle Eidem and Chloe Eidem.
Visitation was held at the church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9.
Interment followed at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in New Auburn Township.
Roland Gordon Bergs was born in New Auburn Township on March 19, 1927. He was the son of Rudolph and Martha (Frauendienst) Bergs. Roland was baptized as an infant on April 24, 1927, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on April 6, 1941 by Pastor Lars Werner, both at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Auburn. He received his education at country school in New Auburn Township.
On May 26, 1946, Roland was united in marriage to Evelyn Jakobi at Zion Lutheran Church in New Auburn Township by Pastor Wm. Mueller. Roland was a lifelong resident of New Auburn Township where he was a dairy farmer. He loved his cows! Roland and Evelyn were blessed with two children, Geraldine and Gordon. They shared 55 years of marriage when Evelyn passed away on August 1, 2001.
Roland was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Arlington where he served as an usher and Deacon. He was a member of the Country School #74 school board and the Shady Lane Sportsman Club, where he helped with the fish fries, fox hunts and coon feeds.
Roland enjoyed family gatherings, farming, reading, going to town to have coffee and driving around to look at the crops. He cherished the time he spent with his family especially his children, grandchildren and great grandchild.
Roland is survived by his children,     Geraldine (Roger) Pomplun of New Auburn,  and Gordon (Barb) Bergs of Arlington; grandchildren, Bradley (Kerry) Pomplun of Glencoe, and Carrie (Kyle) Eidem of Brooklyn Park; great-grandchild, Chloe Eidem; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Martha Bergs; wife, Evelyn Bergs; brothers, Elroy (Mayda) Bergs, Raymond (Gladys) Bergs;  and nephews-in-law, James Hartmann Sr., and Mark Dwinnell.
