Residents overwhelmingly oppose county issue at special meeting

By Kurt Menk

Should Sibley County change the auditor/treasurer position from being elected to appointed?
Residents had an opportunity to voice their opinion on that question during a special meeting in the basement of the Sibley County Courthouse in Gaylord on Tuesday night, June 7.

Over 25 people attended the special meeting and the response was overwhelming opposition to the question.
State Representative Glenn Gruenhagen, R-Glencoe, said taking a vote away from the public is a step in the wrong direction. He added that the public voted on this question in 2014 and it was soundly defeated.
Other people in attendance, who were non-county elected officials and employees, repeated these two comments throughout the special meeting.
