Sibley East 3 • Tri-City United 1
The Sibley East varsity girls volleyball team opened its season with a 3-1 win over visiting Tri-City United in Minnesota River Conference play on Thursday evening, Oct. 8.
The Lady Wolverines, who dropped the third game 25-10, won the first, second and fourth games 25-21, 25-21 and 25-16 respectively.
Senior Ellie Harens, who converted 16 of 17 serves with two aces, also contributed 25 set assists and five kills. Senior Shanise Bates collected 14 kills and 11 digs while junior Molly Krentz compiled 13 kills and three blocks. Junior Adeline Williams had 15 set assists and three ace serves while senior Gabbi Bates recorded 11 digs. Junior Jennifer Wolter added seven kills and three blocks.
“Morgan Halquist did double duty today,” said Sibley East head coach Chip Wolverton. She competed in cross country in the afternoon, then hustled back and played for us tonight. She played in the third set in our regular rotation in the back row. I’m not aware of another girl in Sibley East history competing in two different sports on the same day. She deserves a lot of credit for going out for cross country and adding volleyball to her schedule.
