Paul D. Mathwig, age 58, of Arlington, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 30. Funeral services were held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Green Isle at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5. Visitation was held at the Kolden Funeral Home in Arlington from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 4. Visitation continued from noon until the service time at the church on Tuesday, Oct. 5. Interment was in the church cemetery. Paul Douglas Mathwig was born to Ernest and Dorothy (Hoppe) Mathwig in Gaylord on Aug. 2, 1963. He attended and graduated from the Arlington-Green Isle High School on May 27, 1981. He furthered his education by attending Hutchinson Technical College and graduated in the area of Metrology. Paul worked on the family farm until his parents’ retirement. His field service job brought him various employments including Schwan’s, Worldwide, Elkay Manufacturing and Goebel. Paul married Susan Oelfke  at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg on Feb. 13, 1982. Paul was one of the first Figure 8 racers at the Arlington Raceway. He was a Boy Scout leader, FFA member, and always encouraged his children to be successful and was involved in their passions. Paul enjoyed cooking, hunting, canning, fishing, trapping, gardening and playing Sheephead. He was always up to a good pork burger at Porky’s during the Sibley County Fair. He enjoyed squirt gun fights with the grandchildren and all things family. Paul is survived by his wife, Susan Mathwig; children, Amanda (Lance) Westphal, Daniel Mathwig, Matthew Mathwig, Jenna (David) Mathews, Caitlyn Mathwig and Joe McClellan; grandchildren, Isabel Tigre, Jocelyn Tigre, Kristen Tigre, Leah Westphal, Hailey Mathwig, Blake Mathews, Bryce Mathews, Savannah Mathews, Riley McClellan and Spencer McClellan; sister, Bonnie (Rich) Tuchtenhagen; brothers, Warren Mathwig, Ellerd (Barb) Mathwig, Bruce (Lorinda) Mathwig, John (Althea) Mathwig, Mark (Barb) Mathwig, Eric (Bev) Mathwig and Ross (Kris) Mathwig; uncle, Chester Mathwig; aunt, Gladys Mathwig; mother-in-law, Vera Oelfke; brother-in-law, Bradley (Kathy) Oelfke; aunt and uncle, Marlys  and Gerry Thomes; Godchildren, Teresa Evenson, Krysta Oelfke and Ethan Pomplun; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Dorothy Mathwig; and father-in-law, Ronald Oelfke.
