The Sibley East varsity boys 4 X 800 meter relay team set a new school record at the Minnesota River Conference Boys Track and Field Meet at Tri-City United on Thursday afternoon, May 16.

The 4 X 800 meter relay team set the new school record with a time of 8:37.01. The foursome, which earned all conference honors, included Jens Lundstrom, Travis Andrews, Micah Scherer and Jose Nevarez.

The previous school record of 8:37.5 was set by the foursome of Marcel Montiel, Riley Norman, Julio Garcia and current Sibley East assistant coach Andrew Thies in 2011.

“We are extremely pleased with the improvement and performance of our boys 4 X 800 meter relay team,” said Sibley East head coach Jim Kreft. “From the first time they ran together this spring, they saw the school record as an attainable goal.”
