Gary A. Hartmann, 89, Le Sueur

Gary  A.  Hartmann, age 89, of LeSueur and formerly of Arlington, passed away at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia on Friday, Aug. 9.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Le Sueur at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14. Father Chris Shofner officiated.
Visitation was held at the Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13. A Knights of Columbus Rosary was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13. The visitation continued at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14.
Military rites were provided by the Arlington Honor Guard following the mass at the church.
Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Arlington at a later date.
Gary was born to Herbert and Helen (Neuman) Hartmann at Buckman on May 24, 1930. He graduated from LeSueur High School and attended Mankato State College for a short time before entering the U. S. Air Force. While in the Air Force he had the honor of being a part of the Honor Guard for the inauguration of Dwight D. Eisenhower. He married Lila Annexstad at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Le Sueur on June 14, 1951. They lived in Le Sueur and worked with the family owned Hartmann Department Store and later moved to Arlington and operated the expanded branch Hartmann Department Store there for many years.  He was active in Arlington with the Commercial Club, Lions Club, was a coordinator for Legion Baseball, enjoyed bowling, fishing, golfing in Le Sueur and Glencoe and playing cards.  He was an enthusiast of amateur to professional sports of any kind and enjoyed watching family participation in sporting events.
He is survived by his sons,  David Hartmann and Brian Hartmann of  Le Sueur and Michael  (Robin) Hartmann  of Red Wing;  daughters,  Susan (Gene) Schultz of Arlington, Catherine (Steve) Hansen of Cold Spring,  Patricia (Randy) Geister of Prior Lake, Jean (Rick) Stevens of Ortonville, and Julie (Don) Rachel of Maple Lake; 24 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law,  Harriet Hartmann of LeSueur and Delores Richardson of Colorado; and brother-in-law, Al (Cathy) Annexstad of Georgia.  
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lila, in 1994; and brothers, Dan and Peter “Buster” Hartmann; and sisters, Betty Lindgren and Mary Sullivan.
