The Sibley County Board held its regular meeting in Gaylord on Tuesday morning, July 9.

County Attorney David Schauer said he had been approached in February by Ross Arneson about having the county take over the criminal prosecutions for the cities of Arlington and Green Isle. Arneson would like to continue to handle civil matters for both cities.

In order to handle the workload, Schauer said the county would need to hire one additional attorney and a part-time clerical assistant. Schauer said he would also like to move some of the duties from his second assistant. He said Arneson was charging $125 per hour and estimated an additional cost to the county of $14,000 for the additional staff.  Schauer recommended a negotiating committee meet with Arlington and Green Isle to work out a contract with a flat sum for services to keep the county’s expense at $14,000.
